Discover Michael Joseph

Looking back at the life of photographer Michael Joseph
He was born in Kimberley, the capital of the Northern Cape province in South Africa, in 1941. His father was heavily involved in anti-apartheid activities, including fundraising, and all of this exposed Michael at a very early age to politicians and social reporting in South Africa.
Later, while studying at the London College of Prints and Graphic Arts, Michael Joseph was sent to Vietnam to photograph the war. The images from this trip led to some thirty years of varied advertising assignments for companies such as Dubonnet, Benson and Hedges, Christie’s, Nivea, Pirelli, Malaysian Airlines, Schweppes, Nike, and White Horse.
THE ROLLING STONES
Thanks to his extensive advertising portfolio, he was chosen by the Rolling Stones for the Beggars Banquet photoshoot .
In 1995, travel writer David Saunders commissioned Michael to create a photography manual. 600 of his images were published in this book. This was immediately followed by an illustrated version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy , which graced the cover of Douglas Adams’s book.
Outside of photography and photo printing, he enjoys creating art, gardening creatively, and playing tennis.
